In 2020, real growth in R&D in the OECD area was primarily driven by growth in the United States at 5%. China reported 9% growth while R&D spending in the EU fell in 2020. Meanwhile R&D expenditures declined in Germany (-5.3%) and Japan (-2.7%), according to the OECD Main Science and Technology Indicators.
