2022 was meant to be a year of economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, with spirits high that global trade flows would gradually return to pre-pandemic patterns. Russia’s aggression against Ukraine on 24 February, however, put a brutal end to this optimism, triggering not only death and destruction in Ukraine but also new disruptions to trade flows and turmoil in financial markets. Amidst these crises and increasing geopolitical tensions, our work on trade took on heightened meaning.
