The tax-to-GDP ratio in Chad¹ increased by 6.5 percentage points from 8.1% in 2019 to 14.6% in 2020. In comparison, the average* for the 31 African countries within the publication 2022 has decreased by 0.3 percentage points over the same period, and was 16.0% in 2020.

In Chad, official records document only about 350 000 nomads remaining, out of a total population of 13 million in 2013. In Mauritania, nomads accounted for approximately two-thirds of the population at the time of independence in 1960, one-third in 1977, and less than 6% in 2000. In Mali, the figures amounted to 6% at independence in 1960 (310 000 individuals) and 1% as of the last census in 2009.
